Weekend of Fire

The “Weekend of Fire” was held on December 5th and 6th, 2009 at Ohio Technical College.  The Custom Paint and Graphics Division have designed a training session that students without any previous experience or training can learn from and understand completely.
This 2-day weekend training session focused on learning how to airbrush true and realistic fire airbrush techniques.  Students learned how to create realistic flames that can be airbrushed onto many different surfaces.  This unique trade is ideal for automotive, motorcycle, helmets, murals and much more!

Included in this course, students received an Air Colors Fire Paint  set - Set consist of four (4) - 4oz. bottles (transparent white, transparent red oxide, transparent yellow, and flash reducer).  All airbrushes, paint, board, reference photographs, and other art materials were supplied in our new facility.

Each student spent the first few hours learning the operation of the airbrush.  This was followed by the basics of airbrushing: lines, dots and daggers.

A demonstration panel was created by Tom "Big Daddy" banks showing the step by step process of creating true fire.  The students used this over the course of the weekend to compare their work to and measure their progress.

By the end of the session, each student had completed 2 panels of fire with their own design which they took with them.

Director of Custom Paint and Graphics, Patrick "The Airbrush Guy" Downey, said of the students,"I think they were all amazed with what they accomplished in such a short time as well as having no prior airbrushing experience."

There will be several more ‘Weekends’ of airbrushing.  Future sessions will include training on skulls, ripped and brushed metal, lightening, wood grain, granite and stone, marbleizing, and several more airbrush techniques.
